Chapel by the Sea is an interdenominational church on Clearwater Beach. We are currently seeking a Director of Music/Organist to join our team.
The Director of Music at Chapel by the Sea leads the music ministry for the church, in consultation with the pastor and other team members, in a way that is consistent with the mission, values, and theology of the Chapel community.
Skilled and experienced in choral conducting.
Manage paid choral employees (accompanist, section leaders, scholarship singers) as well as volunteer musicians.
Familiar with traditional church music, including hymnody, anthems, and solo/ensemble collections.
Bachelor degree in music required, master or doctoral degree preferred.
Skilled in interpersonal relations.
Ability to communicate via e-mail and other electronic means.
Preferred candidates will be skilled in organ and piano.
Reports to the Senior Pastor
Lead and direct the Chapel Choir both in practice and in worship as scheduled.
Choose music for the Choir that is appropriate to their skill level and that supports the liturgical seasons, Community Church theology and biblical themes of worship.
Schedule soloists (as well as duets and other ensembles); work with soloists for music selection and performance readiness.
Prepare the Choir to assist the congregation singing hymns and songs.
Cultivate and recruit music scholarship singers and section leaders.
Schedule guest musicians as needed.
Find replacement when unable to perform duties.
Coordinate with the Property Committee through the Office Manager the repair and maintenance of all musical equipment belonging to the Chapel.
Recommend music budgetary needs to the Treasurer.
Confer with the section leaders in coordinating the summer schedule (which will include their four Sunday absences) and inform the Bookkeeper when they miss rehearsals and/or worship services during the church year.
Report to the membership via the Annual Report.
Communicate clearly and in a timely fashion with pastor, musicians, and the office manager.
Prepare for rehearsal prior to the group rehearsal time.
Use group rehearsal time efficiently and respectfully.
Keep the music appropriately filed; purchase new music as the budget allows.
Encourage a shared expectation that worship music is for love of God and to build up the body of Christ.
Perform other functions as necessary.

Preparation outside of rehearsal time
Occasional Special Services including but not limited to: Good Friday (April), additional services on Easter (April), Festival of Choirs, two services on Christmas Eve, Carols by Candlelight (December), and A Service of Remembrance and Hope (December).
