THE REV. DR. RHONDA BLEVINS
In her resume, Rhonda Blevins describes herself as “theologically progressive, ecumenically minded, spiritually impassioned, and relationship oriented.” She thinks she is a “motivated, visionary, creative, catalytic leader” who “promotes a thoughtful, compelling, life-giving faith,” manifested “through love in action.” These are some of the qualities which led the Search Committee and the Church Board to recommend Rhonda for congregational approval as the Chapel’s next pastor.
Rhonda has had extensive and varied experience in her twenty years of service in church and denominational settings. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, TN, her Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX, and her Doctor of Ministry degree from MacAfee School of Theology in Atlanta, GA. She was ordained in 2005 through the auspices of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.
Rhonda has served as a youth leader in churches and colleges; she was the Baptist Campus Minister at the University of Georgia from 1997 to 2004; the Associate Coordinator for Missions for the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Kentucky from 2005 to 2007; the Associate Pastor for Congregational Life (and then Leadership) at the Tellico Village Community Church in Loudon, TN, from 2007 to 2015; and has served as Executive Coordinator of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Kentucky in Louisville since 2015. She is also an Affiliate of Pinnacle Leadership Associates in Chapin, SC (which provides coaching, consulting, and training for clergy and churches), has taken leadership courses with Stephen Ministry, and has earned a unit of Clinical Pastoral Education.
Rhonda and her husband, Terry, have two children, ages 3 and 9.
Herb Freitag, Senior Pastor (retiring in June 2017), received his education at Fairleigh Dickinson University and Union Theological Seminary (New York City). He pastored churches in New York and Ohio, and has been the Senior Minister at the Chapel since 1981. He has also served the International Council of Community Churches as a member of the Board of Trustees, editor of the newspaper, and is a Past-President. He represents the Chapel ecumenically by serving on boards in such organizations as The Florida Fellowship of Community Churches, Morton Plant/Mease Hospitals, and The Suncoast Hospice.

Rev. Lee Crane grew up in Belleair Beach and graduated from Largo High School.He received a track scholarship and went on to Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina.After college Lee went to Colgate Rochester Divinity School.He is an ordained minister.

Dr. Marilyn Michael, Music Director has both B.M. and M.M. in Vocal Performance/ University of Kansas; MS.Ed in Post-Secondary and Adult Education/ Capella University; and Ed.D. Curriculum and Instruction/ University of Sarasota-Argosy University. Since 1994 she has served at St. Petersburg College as full-time instructor/facilitator in voice, opera workshops, and humanities. Dr. Michael has sung in concert in Germany and England, as well as touring the United States, and has performed at Carnegie Hall. Her published works and recordings are listed on the St. Pete College website. Dr. Michael has been Music Director/ Organist at Chapel-By-The-Sea since 1990.
