3rd Anniversary of the Chapel’s “Haven Orange Suitcase Project”! - “The Haven”
spouse abuse shelter, sponsored by RCS, provides a temporary safe place in
our community or victims of violence, along with dependent children. Women in
flight from domestic violence may arrive at the shelter with nearly nothing. These
moms and their children are trying to make a fresh start.
The month of December marks the end of the 3rd year and beginning of the
4th year of our Chapel-By-The-Sea “Haven Orange Suitcase Project” which
collects (in Friendship Foyer) NEW & UNOPENED toiletries (travel & freebie
samples or purchased items), NEW or “GENTLY USED” women’s & children’s
clothing for all ages, pjs, socks, shoes, new cosmetics, baby items, purses &
canvas bags, linens (towels, blankets), and such. All items are sorted into
categories and taken to The Haven weekly or so.
YOU, THE CONGREGATION, have over the past three years contributed so
much! Thank you for supporting the project, and thus supporting and making a
difference in the lives of these women and their families.
The following arrived from Chris Warwick, Director of The Haven:
“The women and children leaving their homes to come to The Haven of RCS for
safety thank you. They don’t know you personally, but they thank you every time
they have toiletries, underwear, or the many other items you donate. Their
children thank you when they have flip flops or pajamas or diapers. You are the
unseen but ever present people who care and show their concern in very real and
tangible ways every day to victims of Domestic Violence.”
You are welcome to stop at the “Orange Suitcase Project” table in the Friendship
Foyer this month to see a display depicting information about this outreach in our
community and donation sheets that reflect the many carloads of goods you have
provided over the past year. Thank you, thank you. And now, on to year # 4!
